Good thoughts! I too am sensitive to criticism, even the non-verbal (i.e., body language) type. I try to be an affirming person, but sometimes my human nature kicks-in, or I get distracted, or I unintentionally miss the context of what’s going on around me and I don’t respond as well as I should.

Thanks, Maggie, for your good counsel. I recall vividly deciding if I could please the Lord and my husband, serving as a pastor’s wife would be much easier. This decision came after 15 months of being the whipping girl for the congregation in our first professional ministry.

Thanks for this blog. I think I can rightly call your role the mother-of-the-bride’s “matron of honor” at my own Maggie’s wedding recently and I’m thrilled you shared this incredible picture of their Joy exiting the meetinghouse as husband and wife (Michelle Gardella Photography)! You’re right — there are no guarantees… but God is sovereign. I thought your bridesmaid statistics were bad until I remembered that I was a bridesmaid in three friends’ weddings and two of those ended in divorce (fortunately, my maid-of-honor role in both my sisters’ weddings is still good for 35+ years, by God’s grace). Keep writing — don’t know when you have time to do it — but I always love your insight and wisdom. bff Cindy

I had a similar experience at the DuPage Convalescent Center with a heavily tattooed man earlier this year. In talking with him I discovered that much of the decorations relate to Christian themes. Turns out that his son and my son were friends at Wheaton Academy during HS years.

I always love bird stories! I hear lots of birds singing in our yard but haven’t been able to spot their nests. In fact, we have a bird that sings just outside our bedroom window early in the morning. What a melodious way to start the day. We are empty nesters again since Widups flew back to Vanuatu.
